FRENCHIE LOVE
Whenever I'm "in a mood" the only thing that really cheers me up is my furson Henri Xavier- a French Bulldog of two years.. So to give everyone a mid week smile I decided to post a montage of Henri photos. Don't worry I won't be one of those crazy dog ladies that do this every week!

CLEMENCE POESY
French actress Clemence Poesy has been a style icon of mine for a very long time..
Being that she is french, she always looks effortlessly put together with an amazing head of perfectly mussed hair.
Her choices are always simple , feminine, well tailored silhouettes in great colors and fabrics.
She always looks dangerously sexy , yet very mysterious. Below are a couple of my favorite Clemence looks...

PEACOCK PRETTY
For as long as I can remember I have been obsessed with peacock feathers.
The colors are so rich and gorgeous and they even have an iridescent sheen.
I even found some peacock feathers at the Rose Bowl and clustered them into a stained glass vase I have for decoration (see below)
Whenever I can find something that has a peacock print or is in that rich gorgeous peacock blue/ teal I immediately snap it up. See below some peacock inspired looks I am lusting after..

SUNDAY SUPPERS
Pennette w/ Broccoli Rabe and Chicken Sausage
I love to cook, so every Sunday I try to make a more substantial supper that will give me some tasty leftovers for the beginning of the week.
This Sunday was cold and rainy so I wanted to do something a bit heartier...
This recipe is based on a dish at Mario Batali's Osterio Mozza.
I tweaked the recipe a little to make it a little healthier (Ex: chicken sausage instead of pork sausage) and subsituted for a things I could not find at the regular grocery (Ex :Orriechiette pasta).
All in all, it still reflects what I love so much about Mario's rustic italian cuisine.
1 bunch rapini (broccoli rabe) thick stem bottoms chopped off
2 tbsp olive oil
1 cup of finely chopped Spanish onion
3 cloves garlic, minced ( adjust as you see fit- I used to close to 5 as I love garlic!)
1/2 tsp sea salt (I like French grey sea salt)
12 ounces chicken sausage, casings removed and crumbled
1/2 cup of marinara sauce (jarred is fine, but I like making my own from this simple recipe)
10 ounces pennette (mini penne)
4 ounces Parmigiana Reggiano grated (3/4 cup)
10 ounces pennette (Mario uses orecchiette- but I was not able to find any)
~Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil . Reserve a bowl of ice water on the side. Add broccoli rabe and cook until crisp and tender, about 3 min. Using tongs, transfer broccoli rabe to ice water to stop cooking. Drain broccoli rabe, finely chop and set aside
~Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat, add onion, garlic and salt and saute until onion is translucent. Add sausage and saute, until browned about 6 min.
~Add broccoli rabe and saute for 2 min. Stir in marinara sauce and add 1/2 cup of water. Simmer sauce over low heat until mixture thickens
~ Cook pennette until al dente, about 10 min
~Drain pasta and add to sauce. Stir in half the cheese and then add sprinkle remaining cheese to top of pasta to finish
This is deliciouso with a nice glass of Pinot Noir!
Buon Appetitio and Happy Sunday:)

BEAUTIFUL BOOKSHELVES
When I moved into my apartment, one of the major selling points was that it had a great built in shelving unit. I knew immediately that it would make a great space to showcase my books! Here are a few things I did to keep it from looking like just your average bookshelf:
~ Shelf Paper: I went to Paper Source and found the prettiest, hand pressed ,shimmery paper
I could find to line the back of the shelf. I used double stick tape and it was so easy! It gave
the shelf a much needed POP! of color
~ Arrange Books by Color: I arranged the books like I organize by closet-by color! I did light
to dark, left to right
~ Take off Hardback Covers: This way you can really see the many colors of the books and it
looks more like a "library"
~ Intermix Precious Mementos: I intermixed my favorite photos in pretty frames and little
pretty things like a golden pear or my lotus votive on top of books. Even a vase of peacock
feathers on one side
~ Add levels: I tried to not stack all books the same way - some are horizontal, some are
vertical. All the stacks are different heights and widths adding interest
~ On top: I grouped together photos of family and friends in large and small frames
~ The Most Treasured Books: I am a total book worm so these are obviously not all my
books- just a collection of some my most treasured books. Including my childhood set of
The Chronicles of Narnia (top photo)
How do you lovelies arrange your bookshelf? I always love to hear new ideas!

TROPICAL PUNCH!
Black Men's Guess T-shirt, Vintage Shorts(80's), Guess Sandals (old) |
Close up of print |
I spent the vast majority of this Sunday at the Rose Bowl Flea Market:)
I knew I would be there for a long time so I wanted to wear an outfit that was comfortable and roomy, and still look pulled together. These shorts defintely fit the bill- as they felt like I was wearing boxer shorts...
When I received these shorts as a gift from a friend several weeks ago I was really drawn to the tropical 80's print. It combines three things I love: pink, black and palm trees!
Hope you darlings had a lovely weekend!

THE CITY OF LIGHT
As I was not able to get to Paris for Fashion Week I wanted to share some fairly recent pics I took from a trip to my favorite city du monde accompanied by my favorite Parisian quotes...
I like to switch it up between color, black and white and sepia pics- hope you enjoy!

A BIT OF WHIMSY...
Last year when I was in France, I discovered the store Pylones.
What an adorable store chock full of whimsical curiosities! Their speciality is making the most everyday mundane items bright , colorful and full of personality.
For example- my nurse tweezers encourage me every day to get give my brows a grooming/clean up:
